Elections 2024

WHY IS PALESTINE AN ELECTION ISSUE?

Here in Ireland people have come out in their hundreds and thousands to protest at what is happening in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. People from all walks of life are demanding that Ireland does more to put pressure on Israel to implement an immediate ceasefire. Irish people understand and empathise with people in Palestine, who are subjected to apartheid laws and who have little access to redress when their land and property is confiscated. People expect their public representatives to reflect this concern.

We expect candidates to state their stance on Ireland’s actions for Palestine and how they would represent their constituents’ views if elected, ensuring alignment with voter wishes.

Local Elections

In total there are 137 electoral areas in Ireland and each of them elects a number of Councillors. The number of County and City Councillors to be elected is 949.

European Elections

There are 705 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) elected by 27 EU states. Voters in Ireland will elect 14 Members of the European Parliament in 2024, one more than in the 2019 elections.

🚨 VOTE JUNE 7 2024 🚨

Both the European and Local elections will take place in Ireland on June 7 2024.

PALESTINE AS AN ELECTION ISSUE

The materials found below outline key issues impacting Palestinian lives, and the demands being made to our elected representatives.

The materials were developed by the Irish Anti-Apartheid Campaign for Palestine.

The Irish Anti-Apartheid Campaign for Palestine

Through shared actions, campaigns and advocacy initiatives, the Irish Anti-Apartheid Campaign for Palestine has pledged to engage members of the Irish public and political representatives on the situation of Palestinians, and to build political support for effective measures by Ireland and the international community to condemn Israel’s settler-colonial regime and to end the crime of apartheid. In particular, it calls on Ireland and the international community to publicly recognise that the State of Israel is committing the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people and to take concrete measures to end this crime against humanity.
