Subject: Urgent Call from [Your Constituency]: Pass the Occupied Territories Bill

Dear Candidates,

I am writing to you as a constituent of [Name of Constituency] to express my strong support for the enactment of the Occupied Territories Bill as soon as the 34th Dáil meets. The bill will ban trade in goods and services with illegal Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory. 

This legislation is essential to ensure that our trade practices align with international law and that we uphold principles of human rights and justice.

The 19th July ruling of the International Court of Justice confirms that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal and instructs States to end all trade with the settlements. We must no longer be complicit in violations of the rights of Palestinians by continuing to trade with these illegal settlements.

I also ask that you commit to divest Irish state assets from all companies listed on the United Nations Database; divest state assets from Israeli government bonds and end the sale of Israeli war bonds by the Central Bank; cease all military trade with Israel; and ensure that Irish airports and airspace are not used to transfer military equipment to Israel, a State accused of committing a genocide. Ireland must also defend UNRWA and continue to fund its essential work.

It is also essential that Ireland insists on the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement and removes Israel from all EU funding, research and cooperation programmes and agreements. 

For more than seventy-five years the people of Palestine have been attacked, driven from their homes and land, killed with impunity, and denied their basic right to equality. We cannot, legally or morally, continue to trade with 750,000 illegal Israeli settlers or their enterprises as they enrich themselves and Israel, while at the same time they impoverish and dispossess millions of Palestinians in their own land, and while Israel continues the genocidal destruction of Gaza and its people.

As a constituent, and in order to secure my vote, I urge you to publicly support the swift enactment of the Occupied Territories Bill and the other measures outlined above.
